Seven local policing teams have become the first in Nottinghamshire to begin using Facebook to get closer to the local communities they serve – online.
Nottinghamshire Police has launched neighbourhood policing Facebook pages in the following areas of the county to offer a dedicated online forum for local people to talk directly to the neighbourhood policing teams in their area:
- Broxtowe North Police: Eastwood, Kimberley, Nuthall and surrounding areas
- Canning Circus Police: Dunkirk, Radford, Wollaton, Lenton and Abbey
- Mapperley and The Wells
- Newark Police - Nottinghamshire
- Sneinton and Dales Police
- St Ann’s Police
- West Bassetlaw Police: Worksop, Blyth, Carlton-in-Lindrick and villages
Each Facebook page will be managed by the local neighbourhood policing inspectors, sergeants and beat officers for the area to help local officers to share key information with local people at the touch of a button.
Improving how we communicate with local communities
Deputy Chief Constable Sue Fish said: “Facebook has repeatedly proved its worth to Nottinghamshire Police with appeals for information regularly being shared well beyond the 72,000 people who ‘like’ the Force’s page. It has generated vital information in the search for missing people, assisted the investigation of crimes and helped identify and locate offenders.
“It also enables us to demonstrate to the public how we can do more for less. Creating a Facebook account costs the Force nothing, yet we manage to regularly share essential messages quickly with hundreds of thousands of people in a very short space of time.
“These neighbourhood policing pages will enable us to focus our appeals for information, crime prevention messages and so much more direct to individual communities to improve how we communicate in those areas and hopefully deliver even more positive outcomes for our investigations and inquiries.”

National recognition for Force social media
The introduction of neighbourhood policing Facebook pages follows national recognition for the Force’s Corporate Communication team who were awarded the title of ‘Best In-House Team’ at the UK Social Media Communication Awards last week.
The Force fought off competition from Greater Manchester Police, Virgin Media, British Gas, the Historical Royal Palaces and the Met Office to take the prize at a ceremony held at Arsenal Football Club’s Emirates Stadium in London last week (Thursday 15 October 2015).
