The city’s cadets from Central Police Station will be engaging with members of the public, patrolling the area and also promoting crime prevention advice on Saturday 23 April between 9am-5pm.

The cadets will be hosting the event within the intu Victoria Centre market place on the upper mall.

A dozen cadets who have been working closely with the force since September will be running a stall promoting police activities, engaging with the public and sharing important messages.

Inspector Paul Gummer said: “It’s a fantastic event for the cadets and it shows how integrated with the force they are.

“The cadets will be working closely with officers throughout the day and also educating the public with crime prevention strategies including timers and property marking pens, meanwhile handing out bells to deter bag thefts.

“We’d like to thank intu Victoria Centre for working closely with the cadets and allowing them to host the event.”

Volunteer Police Cadet Mehek Saghir said: “We are all excited for the event this weekend and to meet the general public.

“It’s important we are able to put into practice our skills during our two year training programme and take part in these exciting events. These experiences are invaluable to our training.

“We can’t wait to meet the public and help share the crime prevention advice we have been learning about.”

Cadet Leader PSCO Zoe Wade said: ““The cadets are really excited about going out on patrol for the first time in the city centre.

“Hopefully it will be the first of many positive events in the city and will be a great opportunity for the cadets to engage with members of the public as well as promoting crime prevention.”

Nottinghamshire Police cadets are aged between 16 and 18 and volunteer in their spare time. You can find out more about our cadet programme by visiting the force’s website.
